2026-03-26 - 02:12

The five-day WAFU B Training Workshop for Young Referees has successfully concluded at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. A total of 32 young referees from across WAFU B member countries took part in the programme, which ran from March 21 to March 25, 2026. The workshop combined classroom sessions with practical on-field training to develop the next generation of match officials. Participants were taken through key areas of modern refereeing, including the physical demands of officiating, decision-making and advanced technical analysis. The training also featured real-time match scenarios to improve game management skills. The programme adopted an interactive format, encouraging discussions between instructors and participants on evolving challenges in football officiating. Some of Ghana’s “Catch Them Young” referees were among those involved, gaining valuable exposure as they continue their development. The workshop also included sessions with WAFU B Men’s Football Manager Adama Guira and Women’s Football Manager Precious Dede, who shared practical insights from their experience in the game. The closing ceremony was led by WAFU B Executive Director Philippe Tchere, alongside Referees Committee Chairman Yeo Songuifolo and Ghanaman Centre Director Winifred Mawudeku, with participants receiving certificates upon completion.
