The Referees Manager at the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Alex Kotey, has acknowledged that referees in the Ghana Premier League do make mistakes. However, he refuses to accept that referees assigned to matches are sometimes biased in their officiating. Speaking on the GFA Podcast, Alex Kotey assured that the referees committee is committed to improving officiating in the Ghana Premier League. “It is very difficult to agree or to generalise that the referees are biased. I would want to rather say that they did not have a good day. Just like any club will get a bad day, it is so with our referees. They are humans,” Alex Kotey said. The Referees Manager continued, “If we realise today it didn’t go well, we will put you on ice and put you through training. When you come back, we give you a smaller assignment to assess you before even the referees committee will assign you to a Premier League game. We want to ensure that at least all our Premier League referees are on top of their game.” After 24 matches into the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, fans continue to complain about officiating. Despite the complaints, officiating in the league has generally improved this season. Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.
