Good news for Ghana as injured Francis Abu nears return to action ahead of World Cup

2026-03-20 - 00:02

Injured Ghana international Francis Abu is close to making a full recovery in the next few weeks, a situation that has increased his chances of making the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The youngster suffered a devastating injury setback in November 2025 while in action for the national team in the international friendly match against Japan. Abu, in the match, suffered a severe double fracture (tibia and fibula) and required urgent surgery. He successfully underwent surgery at Toyota Memorial Hospital before flying to France to start rehabilitation at his club, Toulouse FC. After his gradual recovery process, which included initial gym work, Francis Abu is now training on the grass, although most of the work is done away from group training. A latest update from FC Toulouse on Thursday showed the youngster focused on putting in the work as he hopes to return to action as soon as possible.
