GNPC completes 20 of 25 astroturf projects, five still outstanding

2026-03-25 - 03:44

Twenty out of 25 astroturf projects initiated by the GNPC Foundation since 2019 have been completed, with five facilities still outstanding amid concerns over delays and funding constraints. The issue came under scrutiny when officials of the GNPC Foundation, alongside Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor, appeared before Parliament’s Assurance Committee on March 24, 2026, to provide an update on the projects. A representative of the foundation confirmed that while progress has been made, some projects remain unfinished. “We have about 25 astroturf. Currently, five are yet to be completed, and we are making efforts to ensure they are finished,” the official said. The representative also acknowledged that a number of the projects were initiated without proper budgetary approval, a factor that has contributed to the delays. “Most of these projects commenced in 2019, and in some cases, contracts were awarded without budgetary consideration. We are now working to regularise that and proceed,” the official added. Minister Jinapor stressed that funding remains the key challenge, explaining that Parliament’s approval of GNPC’s budget directly affects allocations to the foundation. He noted that the outstanding projects can be completed once adequate funding is secured. Send your news stories to [email protected] and via WhatsApp on +233 546310076.
