Ghana international Antoine Semenyo played the full duration as Manchester City secured a 2-0 victory over Arsenal to lift the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday at the Wembley Stadium. The versatile forward featured prominently on the right flank in an impressive display at Wembley, contributing both defensively and in attack as City controlled proceedings, especially in the second half. The breakthrough came after the interval, with midfielder-turned-left-back Nico O'Reilly emerging as the unlikely hero. O’Reilly netted twice in quick succession to hand Pep Guardiola’s side a comfortable win and secure their first piece of silverware this season. Semenyo nearly capped his performance with a goal of his own, cutting in from the right before unleashing a left-footed curler that narrowly missed the target. Speaking after the game, the Ghanaian forward expressed his delight at winning his first trophy with City. “First trophy of many I hope! God’s got a plan,” he told Sky Sports. “It might not work out, you might not know why, but the answer always reveals itself,” he added, reflecting on his journey. The triumph marks Semenyo’s first major honour since joining City from A.F.C. Bournemouth in January. With this achievement, he becomes only the second Ghanaian to win the competition, following in the footsteps of Michael Essien, who lifted the trophy with Chelsea during the 2006/07 season. Semenyo is now expected to link up with the Ghana national football team ahead of upcoming international friendlies against Austria and Germany later this week in Europe.
