Ghana defender Joseph Aidoo put up a solid performance for Celta Vigo on Thursday night, helping the side to advance into the quarter-finals of this season’s Europa League. The centre-back, named in his team’s matchday squad for their second leg meeting with Olympique Lyon in the Round of 16, started from the bench and only came on at halftime when he replaced Carl Starfelt. After coming on, Aidoo, together with his Celta Vigo teammates, worked hard to keep a clean sheet. In the encounter staged at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, the Spanish club opened the scoring after 61 minutes of play. Javier Rueda beat Lyon goalkeeper Dominik Greig with a brilliant strike after he was assisted by Hugo Alvarez. The visitors with a numerical advantage then pushed to put the game to bed, but only managed to score the second goal in injury time. This time around, Ferran Jutgla fired home a fine short to complete an impressive team move, sealing a 2-0 win for Celta Vigo. Courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate victory, Joseph Aidoo and his teammates have eliminated Lyon to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
