Derrick Kohn scores in heavy Union Berlin home loss to Werder BremenÂ

2026-03-10 - 00:06

Ghanaian defender Derrick Kohn opened the scoring from the spot, but Union Berlin were thrashed 4–1 by Werder Bremen at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Kohn converted an 18th-minute penalty after a VAR check, drilling confidently past Mio Backhaus to give Union an early 1–0 lead. The advantage was short-lived as Olivier Deman levelled on 31 minutes, finishing a move created by Jens Stage, before Stage himself headed Bremen in front four minutes later. Union struggled to gain control after the break, and Marco GrÃ1⁄4ll’s composed finish midway through the second half pushed the visitors into a commanding 3–1 lead. Deep into stoppage time, Patrice Covic added a fourth to cap a ruthless away performance from Bremen. Kohn’s goal was his first of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign, adding to a league tally that now stands at 23 appearances, one goal, and one assist for Union this season. Union Berlin will look to respond when they travel to face Freiburg in their next Bundesliga fixture on Sunday, March 15.
